Korean Bulgogi: Sweet and Savory Beef


Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 pear, grated (or use pear juice)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mirin (rice wine)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Steamed rice, for serving

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the grated pear (or pear juice), soy sauce, sugar, mirin, sesame oil, and grated ginger. Mix well to create the marinade.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade, making sure each piece is coated. Marinate for at least 30 minutes (or longer for better flavor) in the refrigerator.
  3. Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the marinated beef slices for about 2-3 minutes per side until they are cooked and slightly charred.
  4. While grilling the beef, add the sliced onion and chopped green onions to the grill to lightly char.
  5. Serve the grilled beef and onions over steamed rice, garnished with sesame seeds.
